WESTBROOK, Minnesota (STPNS) --     Westbrook —  With 33 years of experience under her belt, Judy Schoborg was presented an Onsaler of  the Year Award from the Minnesota Licensed Beverage Association. The award is given  to recognize privately owned  liquor establishments and clubs throughout the entire state.

Schoborg was nominated to represent her district by the district board. Her name was suggested by the MLBA office in St. Paul.

She competed with nominees from all around the state. She said “most of the time the award goes to big liquor establishments in the metro area.” The final selection  was made by  the MLBA board in St. Paul.

She was presented  the award at the annual convention of the MLBA Saturday October 7 in Vadnais Heights.

Schoborg said, “I felt pretty good when I was introduced for the award.” Presenter Tony Cheslick commended the award of Onsaler of the Year Award goes to managers who have worked hard for their businesses and the association.

He  also commented that most of the time this award goes to owners of the business, “But Judy doesn’t own her business, she is just the manager, but she really works hard for her business as well as the association.”

She started working at the VFW just shy of 33 years ago,  and has been the manager for the past 25 years. Not many people manage a business for that long without doing the right thing most of the time.

Schoborg has also worked with the Southwest Minnesota Liquor and Hospitality Association for many years and has served as its secretary for about four years.

The award was  based on her work in promoting her business and her efforts in lobbying to the State Legislature. She worked hard to line up meetings with the organization with her fellow members. She  helped to develop legislative strategy to promote electronic pull tabs which were signed into law last year.

Schoborg said “so far there is only one place that has the electronic pull tabs in the area.” But she has applied for the new  Electronic Pull

Tabs and is hopeful they will be getting them soon.

    The new Electronic Pull

Tabs will not replace the traditional pull  tabs. Schoborg feels the new electronic pull  tabs will appeal to the younger  people.

The club will get a portion of the new pull tabs,  as well as the sponsor Westbrook Fire Department, and the state.

Schoborg over-viewed many projects for the local club, many that have made the club a valuable asset to the community.

She noted, “we have given back a lot of money to  the community — through donations to the swimming  pool,  park, scholarships to the school and Miss Westbrook Scholarships. They also have donated to the Westbrook Library, and the Westbrook Veterans Memorial. Proceeds from the Fun Days  have been donated to the WAV and Westbrook Women’s Club.

Of course Westbrook vets and auxiliary participate in Veterans Day, Memorial Day, and provide honor guard for veteran funerals.

The award is well deserved for a person who gives 110 percent for her club and association. Congratulations Judy for a job well done.
