Obituary
WESTBROOK, Minnesota (STPNS) -- Abner Calvin Wahl Memorial services were held for Abner Calvin Wahl Thursday, October 18, 2012 at Peace Lutheran Church. Inurnment was in Yellowstone County Veterans Cemetery with VFW Post 6774 service. Calvin Wahl died Monday, October 15, 2012 in Billings, MT after a long illness. He was 76 years old. He was a resident of the Billings Health and Rehabilitation Community for the last year. Calvin was born on December 29, 1935 in Westbrook, MN to Edward and Lillian Wahl. At an early age, he was baptized and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith in the Lutheran Church in Westbrook. Calvin grew up in Westbrook where he attended school, graduating from Westbrook High School in 1953. Calvin then enlisted in the Air Force in 1955, and was stationed in Reykjavik, Iceland where he was a cryptographer. Calvin married Rosella Lutke in 1958, and was married for 20 years. Calvin Wahl received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Minnesota in 1961 and his Masters of Arts in Education from the University of Montana in 1966. Calvin was a school teacher and school administrator in Montana for most of his career, with a short three year stint in Minnesota. He began as an English teacher in Hamilton, MT, and later he was Superintendent of Schools both at Forsyth and at Bridger. Calvin was very active in the VHF at Billings for many years, and fed drives to provide support packages for the Billings Montana troops overseas. Survivors include his daughter Joann Wahl of Long Beach, CA; son Tim (Darlette) Wahl, Bradenton, FL; his grandson Joshuah (Iryna) Wahl, Vernon Hills, IL; his grandson David Wahl, of Billings; and his longtime friend and companion, Nancy Krell. Preceding him in death were his parents, Ed and Lillian Wahl; his brother Bruce Wahl; his sisters Diana Rachuy and Avis Hoaglund; and son Randy Wahl.
