Loy Woelber appointed to State Board of Teaching
WESTBROOK, Minnesota (STPNS) -- WWG — Last week, Monday, Governor Mark Dayton announced five appointments to the State Board of Teaching. Among the five appointees was Westbrook Walnut Grove Superintendent Loy Woelber. Woelber was appointed as a licensed administrator. Woelber found out about vacancies on the board after recently completing his term with the MREA (Minnesota Rural Education Association). After completing his term he was made aware of openings on the State Board of Teaching. Woelber said he liked working with various education related boards, but not more than one at a time. After finding out about the openings on the State Board of Teaching he applied for one of the vacancies. Woelber said he had to fill out a five page informational document and complete a back ground check before getting the appointment. He said the Board of Teaching is mainly about teacher licensing. A part of the job is about making rules about teacher licensing. He also said the board also has to deal with disciplinary action of teachers regarding questions about their licensure. Woelber will meet with the board once a month, on the second Friday of the month, at the Department of Education in Roseville. He is anxious about representing not only southwest Minnesota but the whole state as well.
