MCKENZIE BRIDGE, Oregon (STPNS) -- WALTERVILLE: The McKen-zie River Guides Cook-Off and Boat Safety Rodeo will be held next Saturday, April 20th, at the Hendrick’s Bridge Wayside Park
The rodeo, scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 pm., is a public service event organized to support the “Free Life Jacket” program and bring awareness and ensure safe boating on Oregon Rivers. The award winning “Free Life Jacket” program provides free life jackets to visitors along the McKenzie River available at participating vendors along the McKenzie corridor.
During the day, the Oregon State Police will be conducting annual boat inspections. It is a great opportunity for people to get their boat inspected before opening day of fishing season. In addition, McKenzie Fire and Rescue will be demonstrating swift water rescue on the McKenzie River at the park.
A big draw for the public happens when the McKenzie River Guides conducts the 5th annual Outdoor Cook-Off during the rodeo. Members of the guides association will be demonstrating Dutch oven cooking techniques by grilling fresh food, frying chicken and providing other outdoor food delicacies. Final judging will occur at 1 p.m.
All proceeds from the Cook-Off and Raffle support the “Free Life Jacket” program. Lane County Parks will be waiving park fees during the event. For more information, contact Jon Payne, at 541-579-3474.
