MCKENZIE BRIDGE, Oregon (STPNS) -- SANTIAM PASS: A Forest Grove couple was seriously injured Sunday afternoon when their motorcycle crashed on Highway 20 about three miles west of the Santiam Pass summit.
According to Oregon State Police (OSP) reports, the accident occurred on July 28th at approximately 4:30 p.m. It involved a 2004 Yamaha motorcycle operated by Rickie Ray Taylor, 61, from Forest Grove that was westbound on a downhill grade near milepost 78 negotiating a left curve. The motorcycle traveled onto the right shoulder, sideswiped a guardrail and then laid on its side, sliding until it came to rest off the highway.
Taylor was seriously injured and transported by air ambulance to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend. He was wearing a protective helmet.
His passenger Laura Taylor, 62, was ejected from the motorcycle onto an embankment. She was taken by ground ambulance to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend and was also wearing a protective helmet.
OSP is continuing the investigation into the cause of the crash. Speed is not believed to be a contributing factor, according to lead investigator Trooper Ray Stallsworth.
Police were assisted at the scene by local fire and police, including Black Butte Ranch Police Department, and ODOT.
