WESTBROOK, Minnesota (STPNS) -- special — The Cottonwood County and Murray County fairs get underway on Wednesday with a wide variety of entertainment and activities.
The Cottonwood County fair will feature several free shows including: Tina and Lena on Wednesday; Friday — Midwest Outlaw truck and tractor pull; Thursday — All American Lumberjack show; and Country band Tim Sigler on Saturday. There will be several other free musical acts as well.
Friday evening there will be a Talent Show in the Windom Arena starting at 7:30 (admission charge).
Of course there will be several buildings with 4-H exhibits, commercial exhibits and much more along with 4-H and open judging for fair premiums.
The McDermott Family Fun Show will be providing carnival rides and mid way games throughout the fair.
What is a fair without food? The 4-H food stand will be offering a variety of home cooked food. There will also be other food vendors selling everything from foot long hot dogs to fresh malts at the dairy stand.
Murray County Fair —
At the Murray County Fair things get under way with many 4-H activities starting Wednesday morning. At 4:30 Sean Benz will be singing music of Johnny Cash near the malt stand. At 7:00 Mylan Ray will be providing free entertainment at the beer garden.
Thursday at 6:30 there will be free watermelon and seed spitting contest at the horse arena. At 7:00 there will be a bean bag tournament at the beer garden, followed by a performance by Divas of Decades under the tent.
Friday there will be a kiddie tractor pull near Heritage Hall at 5:00. Bean Bag Tournament at the beer garden starting at 7:00. At 7:30 Stock Car Races will be held at the grandstand of the Murray County Speedway.
Saturday the Prairie Day parade will be held in downtown Slayton at 1:00 p.m. At 6:00 the Central Plains Truck and Semi Pull will be held.
Thrill seekers will be able to get their fix with the carnival running throughout the fair. Others will have fun with the carnival amusements and tests of skill.
Another popular place is the 4-H food stand featuring a variety of good local food. Of course there is also a wide variety of carnival food stands and other local food stands to take advantage of.
