WESTBROOK, Minnesota (STPNS) -- Windom — According to the Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office, On Sunday, September 8 at 1:08 a.m. Windom Police observed a truck pulling a trailer out of the Runnings parking lot with a riding lawn mower on the trailer.
The officer noticed the trailer did not have any working tail lights and stopped and spoke with the male driver. Upon investigation he determined the driver had stolen the mower from outside the Runnings store.
The driver was arrested for suspected DWI, driving after cancellation, and for theft of the lawn mower.
After further investigation it was determined that at least 2 more new riding mowers and a garden tiller were stolen the same night from Runnings. Officers and deputies gathered more information to obtain a search warrant for the suspects residence in Westbrook. Other lawn mowers and lawn equipment were removed from the residence of the suspect. Law enforcement is investigating to determine if and where they were stolen from.
The suspect has been charged by the Cottonwood County with four counts. Count #1 Theft of lawn mower. Count #2 Receiving stolen property. Count #3 DWI refusal. Count #4 Driving after cancellation inimical to public safety.
It is believed that the suspect may have sold some lawn mowers and other garden equipment from previous reported thefts.
