WESTBROOK, Minnesota (STPNS) -- Danube ó Last Friday night the Chargers traveled to Danube to take on the O-5 Renville County West Jaguars. The weather was very iffy to say the least. There was a steady stiff breeze blowing during the whole game. Also during the first quarter a light drizzle made field conditions less than desirable, not to mention the cross wind blowing.
The conditions were hardly conducive to any kind of a serious passing game so the Chargers had to rely on the run for most of their yards.
The Chargers kicked off to the Jags to start the game. After making a first down the Charger defense forced the ball over on downs when they dropped the Jag quarterback for a big loss on third down.
Despite good field position the Chargers were unable to pick up a first down and were forced to punt. Again the Charger defense stepped up, forcing another punt by the Jags after a third down sack. Sean McCroskey had a nice return inside the Jags 40, but on third down the Jags forced a fumble and recovered on Chargerís 45. Again the Charger defense held the Jags to 3 downs and out forcing another punt.
Then the Chargers fumbled the ball with the Jags recovering at the Chargers 15 yard line. On the first play the Jags were guilty of holding, moving the ball back to the 25 yard line. Then the Chargers held again on third down forcing a punt. The Charger defense blocked the punt and recovered it at their own 38 yard line. Mitch Jarmer got things going with a couple nice runs taking the ball inside the Jags 40. Then Jake Otto made a nice run down to the 10 of the Jags. Just before the end of the quarter Tristan Joel scored on a 3 yard plunge. The extra point attempt failed but the Chargers lead 6-0 at the quarter break.
In the second quarter the Chargers held the Jags to 3 and out again forcing a punt. The punt was a line drive and ended up rolling to the Chargerís 10 yard line. After a five yard loss, quarterback Shane Buchman picked up 9 yards on the next play then Joel picked up 5 yards for a first down. Then Buchman picked up another first down on an 18 yard dash. On 4th down the Chargers tried a fake punt, but it came up short and the Jags took over at the Chargerís 45.
The Charger defense again held, and forced the Jags to punt. After a short gain by Matt Otto, Tristan Joel raced 74 yards for the Chargerís second score. Tyler Schoborg picked up the extra points on a run making the score 14-0.
On the next possession by the Jags, the Charger defense again forced a punt. Tristan Joel returned the punt 12 yards to the Chargerís 41 yard line. Two plays later Joel broke loose again picking up 35 yards down to the Jagís 23 yard line. Jarmer then took it to the 15 of the Jags, on the next play Otto fumbled the ball but recovered it near the 23. On the next play Joel scampered 17 yards down to the 5 of the Jags. Buchman then muscled his way into the end zone for the score. The extra point attempt failed, but the Chargers took a 20-0 lead into half time.
The rest of the game was spent exchanging possessions. The Jaguarís only score came in the third period when the Chargers deep in their own territory tried a pitch and the ball was fumbled into the end zone where the Jags fell on it for the score. The Jags kicked the extra point making the score 20-7. The rest of the game was scoreless and the Chargers brought home the win with a dominating performance rushing for 349 yards compared to just 1 yard net for the Jags.
