WESTBROOK, Minnesota (STPNS) --     A couple weeks ago I thought it was time to get the fake Christmas tree out of hibernation for the season. It is a very nice tree, that we purchased a couple years ago. The only problem with it is it is too big for our spot, and it takes up a lot of storage space, and it is quite heavy.

Now if you have an artificial tree, what I am saying about it is, when you take them out of the box and start assembling them they look similar to Charlie Browns Christmas tree. Well it takes a fair amount of bending and twisting the branches to get them to resemble a real tree. (Smell not included.) Of course when you go to  take them down, it is all but impossible to get the darn thing back into the box! I suppose if you took it outside and drove across it with a truck it might fit,  but then it may not look to good the next year.

At any rate I dug the thing out of our upstairs back hall storage area and lugged it down the stairs. Well after getting it down I told Best Friend, “I am not going to set that thing up again or haul it back up the stairs again!” So I took it directly out to the breeze way. Then we posted a poster with the picture of the tree on it around town, the next day we got a call and sold it.

Well then we had another problem, we still needed a smaller tree, so we began looking for one, from Marshall to Mankato. No luck! Well there were a couple of places that we hadn’t looked in Marshall so we headed up there Saturday and we found one that was the right size and it had colored lights that we wanted and it was on sale besides. So far so good. Sunday evening I decided to start setting it up, it was quite late so I only got the first section branches fluffed out. Then Monday noon I started on  the second section, when  it struck me, the lights were clear white! I told Best Friend, when life gives you lemons you make lemonade. But what do you do when  you get a bad Christmas Tree? She  replied,  “Make Mulch!” We had a good laugh over that.

This Wednesday she has a checkup at Sanford in Sioux Falls, so we will look to see if they have the same tree with colored lights. But now I have  another problem, trying to get the other one back in the box, and I don’t think they would appreciate me driving  over it with my truck! Believe it or not — I actually was able to compact it down and fit it in the original  box using my bare hands. It was sort of like  trying to contain large puppy. Best Friend taped the box while I held it at bay.

Well I hope all of your plans for the holidays turn out merry and bright, and may all your lights work on your tree.

Have a great week and do good!
