WESTBROOK, Minnesota (STPNS) -- Dick R. Bruns

    Funeral services for Dick R. Bruns were held Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove, MN. Interment was in Slayton Memorial Gardens.  Online condolences may be sent to www.stephensfuneralservice.com.  

    Dick, 83, of Walnut Grove died Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Springfield after an extended battle with Alzheimer’s.  

    Dick R. Bruns, one of triplets, born August 13, 1930 in Slayton, Minnesota to Henry and Jesse (Ebbinga) Bruns.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.  Dick attended school at Fulda.  He grew up on the farm, and at age 12 went to work with his uncle.  On September 1, 1951 he married Lucille Marlette at Currie Presbyterian Church.  Dick was proud of his service to his country in the Korean War, serving from July 1952 to June 1953.  He worked at the Currie lumber yard, Revere Milling Company, and as head school custodian in Walnut Grove from 1981 to 1996.  Dick was a very patient man.  He was quick to laugh and slow to anger.  Dick was a loyal “Chevy man”.  He had a warm smile and positive demeanor.  Dick was a member of the Walnut Grove American Legion and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church since 1963 when they moved to Walnut Grove.  He enjoyed farming, camping, and vacationing.  He loved hunting with his brothers in his younger years and dancing after he met Lucille.  



    Survivors include his wife Lucille; children: Carol (Ron) Bannick, St. Peter, Rich (Joanne), Hinckley, Don, Belle Plaine, Cari (Jason) Haug, Brandon, SD; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren; brother Harry (Shirley) Bruns, Marshall, sister Fannie Bruns, Fulda, sister-in-law Fern Bruns, Worthington; many other relatives and friends.  

    Preceding him in death were his parents; son David Scott Bruns; siblings: Rena, Ted, Grace, Pete, Hank, Reiner, Andy, triplets Jesse and George, and Leona.
