WESTBROOK, Minnesota (STPNS) --

    Special — This Friday the Tim Orth Memorial Foundation will hold their annual basketball event at the Gibbon Fairfax Winthrop school in Fairfax. The event will take place Friday March, 28 with the doors opening at 5:00 p.m.

    The event will feature two games that feature players from the Red Rock and Tomahawk conferences. There will be two  games played, the first game will start at approximately 6:00 p.m and will feature the girls game, the second game will feature select players on the  boys team.

    Prior to the first game the players will have a group photo taken along with professional mascots from the Minnesota Gophers, and the Utah Jazz.

    A number of special events are planned for this year’s game. There will be a three point shooting contest for both boys and girls, with the winners receiving plaques. Mascots Goldie Gopher, and The Bear from Utah Jazz as well as Little Bear and the Utah Jazz stunt team will be performing.

    Returning this year the Alexandria Acers a young group of ball handlers from Alexandria will also show off their skills. New this year will be “Quick Change” an act featuring a man and women who “change” before your eyes. They are considered one of the top half time entertainers in the NBA. Also appearing will be “Acro” team, who has appeared worldwide and is considered to be one of the top acro groups in the world. Another special appearance will be by Derrick Parra, Olympic Gold and Silver medalist in speed skating, now an USA Olympic coach will be there to sign autographs.

    Proceeds for this event go to help students who are battling various catastrophic injuries or diseases from the area. One of the three recipients this year is Kate Jorgenson who was in a side by side four wheel vehicle accident last summer,  which severed her left arm above the elbow.

    Girls team  representative is WWG senior Dayna Comnick, with her coach Sheryl Woelber, who will be an assistant coach at the event. On  the boys team will be seniors Alex Knutson and Shane Buchman. Their coach Derrick Jenniges will also be an assistant coach at the event.

    Tickets for the event will be available at the  door, with special discounts for students and senior citizens.
