MCKENZIE BRIDGE, Oregon (STPNS) -- VIDA: Two people were injured Friday morning in a commercial truck crash on Highway 126 about five miles east of Vida.
The accident occurred on April 11th, at approximately 6:30 a.m., on Highway 126 near milepost 32. It involved a commercial truck pulling semi-trailer containing computer servers. The driver, Frank Benson, 64, from Carmichael, California, was eastbound when the truck and trailer edged partially onto the right shoulder. Benson attempted to steer back into the eastbound lane but the trailer struck a tree and power pole. Both overturned onto their side and came to rest across the highway blocking both lanes.
Benson was transported by ground ambulance to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend. Co-driver/passenger Charles Troncin, 46, from Vallego, California, was asleep in the truck’s sleeper berth. He was transported by air ambulance with non-life threatening injuries to the same hospital.
Benson was cited by OSP for Fail to Maintain Lane of Travel.
Lane County Sheriff’s Office, McKenzie Fire & Rescue, and ODOT assisted OSP at the scene. The highway was closed for over three hours.
