WESTBROOK, Minnesota (STPNS) -- WWG FFA took 1st place in Dairy Foods, 2nd place in Dairy Cattle and 2nd place in Meats contest out of 19 FFA chapters competing at the Region Competition recently held at SDSU in Brookings SD. 

    Dairy Foods team members ranked an impressive 1, 2, 3, 5, and 12 as individuals in the contest.  Senior leaders Zua Her, Pakou Vue, and Shiney Her had top honors in order!  Pahnia Vue ranked 5th and Seng Xiong ranked 12th.   The Dairy Foods contest has contestants complete a written test, score and identify milk defects, identify cheese types, score milker parts on defects and cleanliness, and perform a CMT (California Mastitis Test).  The WWG dairy foods team is coach by Josh Barron.

    The Dairy Cattle team placed 2nd.  Maddy Johnson led the team placing 4th as an individual with teammates following close behind.  Dairy team members include Maddy Johnson, Emma Woelber, Juliana Pederson and Jordaan Joel.  The girls worked as a team to complete a team activity over DHIA (Dairy Herd Improvement Association) Records.  Students also placed classes on pedigree, brown swiss senior yearlings, Holstein senior yearlings, brown swiss 4 year old cows with questions, Holstein 3 year old cows, and gave a set of oral reasons.  Doug Lee and Bruce & Jane Pederson coach the dairy cattle team.

The Meats team placed 2nd as a team.  WWG had three individuals in the top ten.  Levi Bunting placed 7th, Matt Otto placed 9th, and Mitchell Jarmer placed 10th.  Jake Otto and Tyler Schoborg rounded out the meats team.  Meats team members placed classes on fresh pork hams,  pork blade bostons, beef ribs, beef rounds, complete two questions classes, quality and yield graded beef carcasses, and completed identification of 30 retail meat cuts.  Linda Carter coaches the meats team

    All three teams will compete next at the State FFA Convention to be held April 27-29 in the Twin Cities.
