WESTBROOK, Minnesota (STPNS) -- Shirley Shaw Bauhs
Funeral service for Shirley Shaw Bauhs was held May 7, 2014 at Will Funeral Chapel, Mitchell, SD. Interment was at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery, Dimock, SD
Shirley, 90, died May 3, 2014 in Mitchell, SD.
Shirley Polkinghorn was born on March 18, 1924, in Armour, SD to Lester and Lucile (Barrett) Polkinghorn. She graduated from Armour High School in 1942 and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Yankton College in 1946. She became a teacher at high schools in Westbrook, Magnolia, and Slayton, MN.
On January 15, 1950, she was united in marriage with Melvin “Pat” Shaw in Mankato, MN. He died in June of 1967. she moved to Sioux Falls, SD, and worked for Dr. Edward Pasek until she met and married Duane Bauhs on May 31, 1975, in Sioux Falls. the couple farmed southwest of Ethan until 1990 and then moved to Mitchell. Duane died on June 30, 1997.
Shirley was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ of Mitchell, Women’s Fellowship, Senior Citizens, and RSVP.
Survivors include sisters-in-law, Marguerite Livesay, Mitchell, SD, Joyce Leischner, Parkston, and JoAnn Ray, Rapid City, and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents and her two husbands.
