WESTBROOK, Minnesota (STPNS) --     I donít know who did all the work lining up the K8 Gives Back Concert, but they deserve a huge hand. They did a fantastic job of pulling off a major event for the 2014 Westbrook Fun Days. Of course I would be remiss for not mentioning all the hard work put in by the local community organizations    to line up all the other fun events that really make up Fun Days.

My own history of  Rock and Roll dates me quite a bit. My memories of Rock and Roll go back to the fifties when the likes of Bill Haley and the Comets along with Chuck Berry, followed closely by the King Elvis Presley were in the infancy of a movement that is still alive and well.

Of course back in the late fifties and early sixties there were a number of country western singers who were popular on both country and rock charts. Johnny Cash was probably the most notable. Then after BF (Best Friend) and I tied the knot she eventually converted me more to the likes of Country Western music. Back then the late sixties through the 80ís were great for Country Western folks. Today Country music (somewhere along the line they dropped Western) is a lot different than it was in my day. I think the gender of Rock and Country have somehow come together  into what is called Country Rock.

At any rate the era of these rockers, Kevin Chalfant, Randall Hall, and Alex Ligertwood, I largely missed, so I didnít quite know what to expect.

I was familiar with the names of their bands, Journey, Lynyrd Skynrd, (is that his real name?) and Santana. But not largely familiar with their music, although I did recognize some of the numbers they played. Also my ear plugs helped, but it still seemed loud to me and some of the older folks in the crowd. I have to say when I was up in front I could literally feel the  music.

It seemed like the first half of the show was quite different than the last half. During the first half I was able to get around the whole area to get photos of the action, but by the latter part of the show almost everyone was on their feet, making it difficult to get where I wanted to be for events that were happening during the show. Fortunately I was able to get most of the shots I needed  early in the show. By the way If you would like to see more of the photos from the concert and Fun Days in general you can go to the ncppub.com click on the Sentinel Tribune page and click on the big blue button to view the albums from all of Fun Days. If you see a special photo you like they can be purchased through the web site.

OK Westbrook whatís next?  How about inviting them back!

Have a great week and do good!
