WESTBROOK, Minnesota (STPNS) -- Ruth Jeannette Harbo
Funeral services/celebration of life will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 28 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Walnut Grove. Visitation is one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Ruth Jeannette (Tellefsen) Harbo, 97, died at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD on January 16, 2011.
Ruth Harbo was born to Bert and Hilda (Hendrickson) Tellefsen July 4, 1913 on the family farm in Johnsonville Township, MN. She was baptized August 3, 1913 and confirmed on July 31, 1927 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove where she has been a lifetime member. She attended Pleasant View rural school and graduated from Walnut Grove High School in 1932. After attending Lamberton Normal teacher-training, Ruth taught in a rural Minnesota one room school house before her marriage to Russell Harbo on August 23, 1935. In the mid 1950’s she began attending Mankato State College earning her Bachelors degree in Elementary Education. In 1956 they moved to Westbrook where Ruth taught fourth and later first grade until her retirement in 1978. After Russell’s death in June 1988, Ruth returned to Walnut Grove.
Survivors include her children: Sonya (Duane) Talus, Nancy (Byron) Anderson, and John (Carol) Harbo; grandchildren: Kathy (Doug) Keyzer, Douglas (Carol) Talus, Steven (Jane) Talus, Leslie Anderson, Gretchen (Robert) Strandell, Heather (Anthony) Vermeulen, Carla (Kendall) Landry and Emily Harbo; great grandchildren: Kyle, Matthew and Jason Keyzer; Bryan and Eric Talus; Cole Talus; Nicholas, Alexander and Sarah Strandell; and Hannah Landry; brother Donald (Betty) Tellefsen; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Russell, infant brother Robert, sisters Florence Egge and Darlene Fisher, and brother Burton Tellefsen.
Florence Arvilla Larson
Funeral services for Florence Arvilla Larson were held Saturday, January 22, 2011 at the Storden Baptist Church with Pastor David Johnson officiating. Burial followed in the Storden Baptist Cemetery in rural Storden.
Recently, Florence became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society-Westbrook until being hospitalized at the Westbrook Hospital where she died January 17, 2011, at the age of 84.
Florence Arvilla Larson daughter of the late Peter and Florence (Brandow) Erickson was born in Dovray Township, Murray County, MN. She received her education in country school District 97. Florence accepted the Lord as her Lord and Savior at the age of 13 and was baptized by Rev. Anderson. She helped her parents at home with the gardening and many other jobs. Florence also cleaned for the neighbors and took care of their children and took care of her father when he was bedridden.
In June of 1946, Florence was united in marriage to Burdett Larson. To this union two daughters were born, Ruthann and Rebecca. They lived on the south shore of Double Lakes. Florence was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church,Westbrook, then joined the Storden Baptist Church in 1946 where she was a Sunday school teacher, a youth leader for many years, a Deaconess and a member of Women’s Fellowship. In 1960, they bought a home in Storden.
Survivors include her husband, Burdett Larson, Westbrook; daughters, Ruth (Earl) Mostoller of Interlachen, FL; Becky (Merle) Bailey, Lincoln, NE; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth (Stanley) Madson, Westbrook; many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; grandsons, Jeremy Bailey, Steven Parsons, and Jerry Hernandez; an infant great-granddaughter; sister, Hazel (Grover) Busk; brother, Raymond (Mary) Erickson; sister-in-law, Ione Larson; brother-in-law, Lloyd (Margie) Larson; nephew, Rick Larson.
Willard “Bud” Mischke
Funeral services for Willard “Bud” Mischke were held Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook. Interment wass in the Westbrook Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent via www.westbrookfuneral.com.
Willard “Bud” Mischke, age 90 of Westbrook, died Saturday, January 22, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family.
Willard “Bud” Mischke was born on July 18, 1920, in Westbrook Township to August and Louisa (Eichner) Mischke. He was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook, confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Ann Township, and graduated in 1938 from Walnut Grove High School. On March, 20, 1946, Bud married Janet Roemer. He farmed southeast of Walnut Grove, east of Revere, and in 1958 purchased the family farm northeast of Westbrook where he remained the rest of his life. In addition to farming, Bud worked as township and town assessor, as a field tiler, and as a carpenter and woodworker.
Bud enjoyed riding horses and was a long-time member of the Plum Creek Saddle Club. He was active in his church and community, serving as church president and council member, a member of Cottonwood County DFL, Farmer’s Union, and NFO.
Survivors include his wife, Janet; sons: Larry (Susan); Richard (Kathleen); Jay (Julie); David (Judy); and Lee (Lisa); a sister Gloria Jacobs; grandchildren: Matthew (Heather), Michael (Katie), Mark, Tina (Terry) Schenk, Tara Matson, Ann (Mark) Morgan, Luke (Alison), Katie (Patrick) Slack, Kelsey, and Kaylee; and 16 great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, and a brother Marvin.
