Obituary
WESTBROOK, Minnesota (STPNS) -- Rodney Byers Funeral services for Rodney L. Byers were held Saturday at the Jeffers Baptist Church. Interment will be in North Hero Township Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent at www.stephensfuneralservice.com. Rodney, 75 of rural Revere died Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at his home after an extended battle with cancer. Rodney L. Byers was born February 24, 1937 in Slayton, MN to Adelbert and Frieda (Skjong) Byers. He was the fourth of eleven children. Rodney was raised on a farm south of Walnut Grove. He attended Walnut Grove School and graduated in 1955. On October 8, 1956, he and Joan Harbo were married in Flandreau, SD and to this union four children were born. Rodney worked for Dave Hicks for two years and then for Oliver Nelson 41 years. He spent the rest of his life farming. Rodney was a member of the Jeffers Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting and spending time with the grandkids. Rodney was a gentle, caring man who loved the Lord and had an understanding heart for people. Survivors include his wife Joan; children: Brad (Sheree) Byers of Vacaville, CA, Bruce Byers, and Eileen (Tim) Helmer, both of rural Revere; grandchildren: Jared and Jenny Byers, Ben, Nicole, Justin, and Lindsey Byers, and Andrew, Emily, Sam, and Abby Helmer; great grandchildren Tyler Wastell and Charlie Helmer. He is also survived by his siblings: Don (Mavis) Byers of Austin, Doralyn (Don) Foster of Willmar, Dene Byers of Milaca, Carol (Jim) Kluver of Fairmont, and Marjorie (Mark) Knudson of Northrup; and many other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents; son Brian; sisters Barb Hummel, Judy Licht, and Debbie Byers; brothers Bob and Denny Byers.
