WESTBROOK, Minnesota (STPNS) --     Walnut Grove — Area campers have known Plum Creek Park is one of the finest parks and campgrounds in southwest Minnesota. Well, now the rest of Minnesota will know about the popular park. The park is the only county park in Redwood County.

CBS Minnesota said, “If you are looking for a little history lesson, in addition to your scenery when you go camping, look no further than Walnut Grove’s Plum Creek Park. It lays claim to one of the childhood homes of Laura Ingall Wilder (the wilder family dugout home site is just 1.5 miles north of Walnut Grove).  Visit the nearby Laura ingalls Wilder Museum, as well as the Wilder Pageant every July. Focusing solely on the camping ammenities, this site offers swimming area, playgrounds, and activity fields for children big and small, a nine-hole disc golf course, ample hiking paths, picnic shelters with tables. This definetely is a family oriented camping area, but well worth the extra drive for anyone who ever enjoyed reading (or watching) ‘Little House on the Prairie.’

Some of the things not mentioned were: sand volleyball courts, softball fields, bath houses, abundant wildlife and birding opportunities, hiking path around Lake Laura, and walking tour “When the Prairie Whispers,” highlighting 23 tree varieties.
