WESTBROOK, Minnesota (STPNS) --     WWG — For the second week in a row the Chargers were pummeled by a strong running game. This week it was Mountain Lake Area Wolverines that racked up 347 yards against the Chargers.

    The Wolverines took the opening kickoff and marched down the field to score the first touchdown.  The score came on a 21 yard run, the two point conversion failed giving the Wolverines a 6-0 lead with 7:13 to play in the quarter.

    On the Chargers first series they responded with a 75 yard drive on 7 plays. Sean McCroskey took the kickoff and picked up 10 yards on the return. After another short gain quarterback John Elzenga flipped a shovel pass to Dana Madson for a 27 yard gain taking it inside Wolverine territory. Then Andrew Merrick made a short gain of about 3 yards, but a 15 yard face mask penalty moved the ball to the 28 of the Wolverines. Two plays later Madson picked up 22 yards to the 4 yard line of the Wolverines. On the next play Madson crashed into the end zone for the score. Merrick dashed into the end zone to tack on the two point conversion, putting the Chargers up 8-6.



    On the Wolverines next series the Charger defense held the Wolverines and forced the ball over on downs. The Chargers then picked up a first down, but then went three downs and out, and were forced to punt.

    The Wolverines then moved the ball down to the 9 yard line of the Chargers as the quarter came to a close.

    The wolverines then had their way controlling the ball for most of the second quarter. The Wolverines scored on runs of 4, 5, and 6 yards. They converted two 2 point conversions giving  them a 28-8 half time lead.

    In the third quarter the Chargers were not able to put up much offense but did hold the Wolverines to one score. With the game well out of reach for the  Chargers, the Wolverines shut the door adding two more touchdowns making the final score 50-8.

    Elzenga was 5 of 14 for 52 yards with 3 interceptions.

    Madson had 13 carries for 50 yards and a TD; Merrick had 8 tries for 50 yards and 1 EXP; McCroskey had 3 carries for 25 yards.

    Madson had 2 catches for 28 yards; Aaron Hass had 1 catch for 9 yards; McCroskey had 1 catch for 8 yards; Levi Bunting had 1 catch for 7 yards.

    Madson had 3 punts for 93 yards.

    Tyson Berg had 1 kickoff return for 27 yards; McCroskey had 2 returns for 25 yards;  Merrick had 2 for 19 yards.

    On defense Madson lead the Chargers with 15 tackles; Merrick and Bunting each had 12 tackles; Matt Otto had 8 tackles; Shane Buchman and Elzenga each tallied 6 tackles.

    This Friday the Chargers will take on Renville County West for the annual homecoming game starting at 7:00 p.m.
