DELHI, California (STPNS) -- The Stanislaus County Fair opened Friday, July 28. Anyone who brought a canned good received a discount on fair admission. The canned food was collected for United Samaritans in Turlock.

The Stanislaus County Fair services the 38th District Agricultural Association which includes portions of Merced County north of the Merced River. Ballico 4-H and Hilmar FFA are among the groups eligible to participate in the Stanislaus County Fair.

The fair includes a wide range of excitement such as agricultural exhibits, livestock judging, live entertainment and a carnival. Concerts in the Food Maxx Arena so far have included Michael Bolton and LeeAnn Womack. 4Him played on the Budweiser Variety Free Stage on Monday night in one of their final ten concerts. The bandmates are set to split and pursue solo careers. Huey Lewis and the News are set to take the Food Maxx Arena stage Tuesday night. Wednesday and Thursday nights will feature Destruction Derby events.

Much of the livestock and other agricultural judging is well underway. Fryer rabbits were among those judged Sunday afternoon and the Dairy Showmanship judging took place early Monday evening. Two Crows Landing 4-H entrants took first and second place in the fryer rabbit judging.

Beautifully decorated cakes, hand-crafted quilts and large fruits and vegetables are on display in the 4-H exhibit area. Many local groups and agencies have turned out in full force to share information. And, the Turlock Poker Room has a table among the commercial exhibits which allows people of all ages to try their hand at poker playing. No-Limit Texas Hold'em is the game, for those interested in playing.

Of course, no one can forget about the delicious fair food. Corn dogs, linguica sandwiches, cotton candy and many other favorites are available. There are also fried Snickers and fried Twinkies for those who want to try something a little different.

Fair admission is $8 for adults (people 13-years and older), $3 for children (6-12-years-old) and children under the age of six are free. Merchant Days coupons are available at Delhi Auto and Truck Parts (our local Napa retailer). With those coupons, you can save $2 on fair admission. Merchant Days are Wednesday, August 2 and Sunday, August 6.

See you at the Fair!
