JEWELL COUNTY, Kansas (STPNS) -- The Mankato City Council met Oct. 7 with Mayor Don Koester presiding. Council members present were Mac McCammon, Sam Becker and Jim Ross. Council members Lyle Dauner and Brian Badger were absent. Darrell Miller, City Attorney, was also present.

Visitors present were Kris Klos, Janice McDill, Sarah Ortman, Susan Bradrick, Larry Grove and Mark Hurd. Klos, McDill, Ortman, Bradrick, and Grove were in regarding repairs needed on the Ute Theater building. The building front was discussed. Repair needs to be done to the front of the concessions building, a marquee was discussed. Cost estimates with volunteer labor were discussed. Priorities of repair were discussed with the front wall being first priority, followed by the floor in the theater portion of the building, then the ceiling tile. Budget issues were discussed. Avenues to become a non-profit were discussed. Fund raising was discussed. It was the council's consensus that they would like to see the theater building remain open and support would be made available as budget would allow.



Mark Hurd was in to discuss changes to number 5 tee box at the Mankato Country Club. The Country Club is requesting to lengthen hole 5 and would like to utilize an additional .63 acres of pasture ground for the change to be made. As the pasture ground is leased, contact would have to be made with the lessee to make sure there would be no objections and that an amendment to the lease would be acceptable. The council expressed no objections to the project as long as the lessee did not object. City administrator Loomis will contact the lessee.

As a library board appointment was needed to replace Betty Andreasen, Nancy Wendling was appointed.

A building permit application from Trevor Elkins to construct a storage garage at 406 N. Lincoln was approved.

A soft loan on property at 323 N. McRoberts was discussed. The owner is requesting the city subordinate its mortgage position to facilitate implementation estate planning. The request was approved.

Community Center charges were discussed.
