WHIDBEY ISLAND, Washington (STPNS) -- The Town of Coupeville is changing its logo. The current logo showing the blockhouse and a flag and flagpole will be replaced with an oval design featuring the Coupeville Wharf with Penn Cove and Mount Baker in the background. The insignia will also feature the words "Heart of Ebey's Reserve."

Coupeville Mayor Nancy Conard said the goal was to have the new logo ready for the 30th anniversary of Ebey's Landing National Historical Reserve, which is being celebrated Nov. 7 and 8 with the first Ebey's Forever Conference.

Town Council member Molly Hughes took the lead on the project, shuttling multiple versions between the council and local graphic designer Carol Moliter. Hughes said the logo needed to be updated to reflect what Coupeville and the reserve are all about. The existing logo has been in use since the 1970s.

Conard said the cost of redesigning the logo was about $300. It will eventually appear on everything from the town's official stationery and Web site to its police cars. Conard said she doesn't know how much it will cost to implement the logo, but that it will be done incrementally.
