LEROY, Minnesota (STPNS) -- The Southland School Board held their regularly scheduled meeting on Monday evening, November 17, in the Media Center Conference Room at the Southland MS/HS in Adams.

Chair Mike Smith, Board members Pat Graves, Sharon Monson, Bruce Nelson, Jack Klaehn, and Kim Bruggeman; Superintendent Steve Sallee; Financial Manager, Kathy Holm; Administrators, Randy Juhl and Ryan Luft; and Student Representative Liz Meany were present.

The Board approved the agenda, the minutes, the bills payable, the activity fund report, and the financial report as presented.



The Board heard a report by Student representative, Liz Meany and then heard a presentation from Miss Meany and another Southland student, Brooke Hamilton. They explained the Social Problems class project, Political Elections, taught by Mr. Bill Feuchtenberger. They outlined the class participation in the project and the election process as experienced at Southland.

The Board unanimously approved the hiring of Alicia Baugh and Steve Nagle as bus drivers for the Southland School district, and accepted the resignation of John Leisen as a bus driver. They approved requests from Southland Youth Wrestling and the Southland Area Girl Scouts to publish their schedules in Rebel Talk and online on the Website.

The board held further discussion about the option of hiring TAHER to take responsibility for providing the School lunch program at Southland. There will be further discussion about the possibility of this alternative at the December Board meeting.

Principals Juhl and Luft reported on the attendance rates at parent/teacher conferences held earlier in November. Both reported exceptional participation by Southland families. Both also discussed activities that were held for Veterans Day and the upcoming activities for National Education Week. Juhl reported that the Elementary PTO Waffle Breakfast was a huge success; 795 meals were served. He also reported that the first of the required lockdown practices would be taking place sometime during the coming week. Luft reported on the progress of Southland/Riverland initiatives as well as, the Language Arts initiative.

The next regularly scheduled Southland School Board meeting will be held on Monday evening, December 15, at 6:30 p.m. in the Southland MS/HS Media Center Conference room in Adams.
