SOCORRO, New Mexico (STPNS) -- Last week, I wrote about Al Gore playing the casino circuit to promote the global warming hoax. Yes folks, it is a monumental hoax.

In Britannica?s words, a hoax is ?something accepted or established by fraud or fabrication.? Now in today?s sue-everybody-at-the-drop-of-a-hat society I won?t try to cry fraud. Instead, we will concentrate on fabrication.

The burning question: If you have an issue so strong that it is beyond debate, why lie about it? If you have to lie about something to promote it, how, in this age of information at everyone?s fingertips can you expect to get away with it?

Simple, I believe that it was Goebbels, Hitler?s ?minister of propaganda and national enlightenment,? who said that if you make a lie big enough and tell it often enough, people will believe it.

Take a moment and consider the second part of Goebbels title, ?national enlightenment.? There is a direct parallel to all these great visions of the future that the enviro-nazis keep pushing on us in supposed ?education enlightenment.? Certainly the global warming hoax is huge, so that just leaves telling it often enough to fulfill Goebbels plan.

As I pointed out last week, the global warming hoax claims that glaciers are shrinking where they?re in fact growing and deserts are expanding where they are ?in spectacular retreat.? The hoax continues with claims that Antarctica is melting while in reality it has been ?dramatically cooling for decades.? It goes on and on.

The hoax promotes fear and disinformation in the face of scientists and scientific organizations all the way up to the United Nations, whose reports contradict the allegations of the hoax time after time. As I promised last week, we are going to take a look at some historical agendas that in my opinion are frighteningly similar to the global warming movement.

Do you recall the DDT ban? The story was that DDT washed down off crops into streams where it contaminated the fish. Then, eagles ? being famous fishermen ? caught the fish and ingested the DDT. Finally the DDT caused the eagle?s egg shells to soften which was to blame for the impending extinction of the eagles.

Years later, after real studies had time to dispute all this, all that went away, but the ban continues. The cost of losing such a low-cost excellent pesticide was famine, when the developing-world farmers lost their best weapon against locust; and disease, a million people die from malaria every year, an African child every 30 seconds! Just about any disease that is spread by bugs has enjoyed a heyday courtesy of the ban.

This is a great tragedy and reasons enough to fight every half-cocked environmental agenda, before we reap the consequences. We can?t allow misguided agenda or political manipulations to tip the balance in favor of death. The fact is that death doesn?t need our help. Given time it?s going to get us all.

I propose that the radically inflated costs of necessary provisions are just as deadly to the poor of the world as direct starvation. This brings us to another environmental fantasy, the CFC-ozone crisis. The story was that chlorofluorocarbons, or CFCs, and Freon refrigerants were going to cause us to all die of skin cancer and (again) the ice caps were going to melt.

In my opinion the core of the issue was much simpler and infinitely more mercenary. Dupont had the patent(s) for Freon (if they hadn?t run out) and also the new patents for a different coolant which cost about 15 times as much. How do you convert the world to the newer and hugely more expensive product? Ban the old one ? again, there is a human cost. When refrigeration is costly, the poor will do without it. Without refrigeration, crops spoil and famine ensues.

The connection: in 1992, Senator Al Gore gave us the ozone catastrophe speech to get the Senate to advance the date for phasing out CFC production by five years. The rhetoric included all the propaganda about cancer, blindness and death.

The Senate passed the amendment 96-0 ? that same day ? without a thought to consequences, costs or the lack of factual reasons to believe the ozone farce at all. There is way too much data available to support this to try to print it all in this little column.

Suffice it to say that if you have any doubts let you fingers do the walking through the Internet.

In the meantime we will go back to the current global warming hoax next week with the real facts about the ?record hot years? and the carbon-dioxide fantasy that is the core agenda of this hoax.
