DELHI, California (STPNS) -- Delhi will again celebrate the Fourth of July with its own fireworks display.

Following a meeting on the evening of Wednesday, March 29, 2006 Chairman Robert Rodarte announced the commitments had been made that will cover the necessary funding for this year's event.

"It is my distinct pleasure to announce that we have received commitments for $12,950 towards our 2006 Delhi 4th of July celebration," Rodarte wrote in an e-mail to The Delhi Express. "This Delhi American tradition will go on for another year!"

The funding came in the eleventh hour. The night before the meeting, Rodarte was still looking for a little over $4,000. A lot of leg-work and phone calls went into getting the commitments for the funding.

Sponsors for the 2006 event include: County Bank ($5,000), Delhi Developer Group ($2,350), Delhi Chamber of Commerce ($2,000), Merced County Supervisors ($1,500), Wellington Corporation ($500), E&J Gallo Winery ($500), Liberty Market ($500), Flicks & Licks ($200), Richard Jantz ($200), Savemart Supermarkets ($100), Hilmar Cheese Co. Inc. ($100), Dennis & Sherry Coté ($100), Steven & Wendy Campbell ($100). ?Gifts in Kind? have been received from Citibank ($200) and The Delhi Express ($300).

With the fireworks display now financially set, a committee will now consider having a small event before the fireworks display. It will likely be smaller than in previous years, but much of that remains to be determined. The next meeting for the Fourth of July will take place on Wednesday, April 26 at 6 p.m. at the Sarah Jane Clegg Conference Center on Locust Street.

Pastor Dave Britton of New Beginnings Christian Center also serves as treasurer for the Delhi Chamber of Commerce. He attended the March 29 meeting and expressed excitement at having reached the amount needed for the fireworks display. He and Rodarte were both pleased that in addition to having the funding come in, some people stepped up to assist with the event as well.

It is not too late to make a donation to the festivities. Please contact Rodarte by phone or e-mail, (H)  209-668-9155 (W) 209-358-1526 rrodartejr@charter.net to make a donation.
