LEXINGTON, Mississippi (STPNS) -- A 20-year-old Tchula man apparently committed suicide after allegedly shooting and injuring his girlfriend Sunday afternoon, according to Sheriff Willie March.
The man's body was found about 30 minutes later outside of his car on Horseshoe Road where it appeared he had shot himself in the mouth, according to the Sheriff.
The woman, whose name was not released, was at a car wash in Tchula about 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4, when the man allegedly fired several shots, hitting her at least twice.
The Sheriff said the woman was transported to Greenwood Leflore Hospital, where she was listed in stable condition.
The man allegedly had shot four times at the woman about four days earlier after a dispute in Tchula; but missed.
March said, Sunday's shooting most likely stemmed from that earlier incident. He was not arrested or charged in that shooting, according to the Sheriff.
"I heard she didn't want to press charges. But if that's domestic violence, the police should have pressed charges against him," March concluded.
