How to Beat a Bunch of Adults Out of $100Sixteen Year Old With A Mission
CANYON LAKE, Texas (STPNS) -- Every detail was meticulously planned. And we received $100. This is the second time Kristina and I have won in the Idea Fair at a newspaper convention. For all those out there who think kids are slow, who has the $100, huh? Over the years, I have learned how to milk the cute factor. At a very tender age, I realized that saying and doing smart, pure things with the utmost politeness and cute pigtails can have a powerful effect on adults. I have been a Girl Scout since I was six, and in my day, I sold thousands of boxes of cookies, owing much to that charming Brownie beanie cap. Thus, it was unproblematic for Kristina and me to beat a bunch of adults and win second place for a simple idea: Kid pages should be more prominent in newspapers. The secret to winning over adults is to throw your self-consciousness out the window and go for it. To grab the audience?s attention from the start, we sang the hip song ?Move It!? from the film Madagascar and followed it with an engaging presentation and clinching conclusion. They loved it, although they did not know why. In truth, it was all a careful strategy and we pulled it off. Oooooo, I gotta say it, kids rock!
